It’s officially spring! YAY! I generally make TBRs monthly and *gasp* stick to them. I have been reading a ton lately and picked some books monthly that I hadn’t planned on reading, but what can I say. For the most part, I’m a planner.
When the Sky Fell on Splendor by Emily Henry
Currently already reading this as it’s April 3rd. This is one of my anticipated releases of 2019. I haven’t ready anything by Emily Henry previously, I just felt the synopsis was pretty cool. It follows a group of friends who all have tragically lost someone in a steal mill accident. One night they witness an electrical event, and they figure out they have powers afterwards. We are trying to figure out what, when, where, why, how?
Miracle Creek by Angie Kim
Never heard of this book before. Picked it up as my Book of the Month pick this month. It is a courtroom drama mystery. An autistic boy dies in an explosion while getting a medical treatment. On that particular day, the people that run the facility were not following procedure. The boy’s mom does not go with him to treatment that day. Instead she is outside smoking a cigarette, which supposedly causes the explosion. So who is to blame? Sounds interesting to me and somewhat different from what I would normally read.
Battlemage by Taran Matharu
This is the third and final book in the Summoner series. It follows a group of friends who can summon demons and use them for battle. There is a war between humans/elves/dwarves and the orcs. There are dynamics between all of these different races of people. I really liked the ending of the second book and am interested in seeing how the story plays out.
We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson
This is my first Shaun David Hutchison novel. I’m currently reading this. I wasn’t interested in it at all until I heard a few booktubers say it was their favorite book. So, I thought I would give it a try. It follows a boy named Henry, who is homosexual. His boyfriend committed suicide less than a year ago, and the new boy he has been with ignores him and makes fun of him in public. He has family drama. All of this basically makes him hate the world. He has continuously been abducted by aliens and these aliens choose him to save the world. They show him that there will be an apocalyptic event on Earth in 144 days and only he has the choice to save Earth or not. What will he do? Sounds quite interesting. I’m currently reading this alongside When the Sky Fell on Splendor, and they are very similar so I may have to put one down, but definitely will pick it back up.
Killman Creek by Rachel Caine
I started this series quite awhile ago and figured I would continue. This is the second book. The third book came out last month, and I hope to finish this series by acquiring that one in the next couple of months. This follows a woman who had a very long, happy marriage to a man who turned out to be a serial killer. People harass her, etc. because they believe she knew all along even though she was released from any charges. There are mysteries and people dying and she has to find out who the killers are. The first one was okay.
The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
I don’t think I’m going to get through all of these this month, but hoping to get to the first two. As most of you know, there is going to be a Netflix series and I want to read these to get caught up. I know many people aren’t fans, but it’s imperative to the Grisha story so I must read. Of course I loved the Six of Crows duology!
The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
Finally hope to get to the third book in the Mistborn trilogy. Of course, these book have made me a Sanderson fan. These novels have a unique magic system that centers around the ingestion of metals and getting certain powers from certain metals. The common people are fighting to get their world back. It’s been one hell of a ride so far. Can’t wait to finish this up!
And then, of course whatever I pull out of my TBR jar!! I have to say, I have been cheating on this. I normally pick 3 books out and choose one. Mostly because I am a mood reader, and I don’t want to pick up something I’m not in the mood for because I want to give everything a chance!
What are you guys reading in April?
